Casa Bellavista

The Casa Bellavista at Lake Orta

Please note that this property is no longer available.

The Casa Bellavista is a beautiful top floor apartment sleeping 4 adults in an imposing villa dating from the 1880's, in one of the best settings in the area, with wonderful panoramic views of Lake Orta.  The building, the ex-Villa Scappardini, is mentioned in local guide books, and was for many years a hotel, the Hotel Bellavista.

The lake shows a different colour almost every hour of the day and night.  One of the walks we provide takes you around this peninsula right next to the lake!

Setting

The building is situated at the northern edge of the village of Miasino, some 200 metres (in altitude) above Lake Orta.  Miasino has several small food and other shops, and is in a peaceful setting.

The building has a wonderful setting, and retains most of its original character: the grand internal staircase (shared with other apartments) has been beautifully preserved.  The beautiful grounds (shared with other apartments) contain many beautiful shrubs and trees and are dotted with benches and tables, so you can have a wonderfully relaxing vacation rental, away from the pressures back home...

The apartment is on the top (third) floor with the exposed roof beams a real feature, and is furnished to a very high standard with furniture of contemporary design.  There is a lift to the second floor.

The master bedroom has a double bed in hand polished steel, with bedside tables and chest-of-drawers.

The kitchen area has a gas cooker (four rings), sink, fridge with freezer compartment, storage cupboards and a microwave oven (with grill) and is fully equipped with everything for your stay.

A unique feature of this apartment is the solarium, a roof terrace (measuring more than 10 by 11 feet), cut into the roof of the building, and facing west (towards the lake) where there is a second dining table and chairs.  From the solarium there are splendid views of the lake and the distinctive flat-topped and completely wooded Monte di Carcegna nearby.

The main part of the apartment is a large open living space (more than 21 by 14 feet) taking in one of the large gables of the building, with views of the northern part of the lake.  This area is divided into: an area with two twin sofabeds; a living area with the television and video; and a dining area.  The area with the two single sofa beds can be screened off.  (These sofabeds are full size 6'3" quality sofabeds)  Thus, if desired the two single sofabeds can be left out as beds during the day, as there is another sitting area (though the sofabeds are easily and quickly converted back to sofas!).

The bathroom has a shower (there is no bath tub) and a loo, and an automatic washing machine.  In the winter, independent gas central heating is available.

There is a television (local Italian television) and video player (plus a good selection of English language videos for all age groups).

There is a telephone in the apartment, for incoming and local calls only.  No charge is made for its use.

A parking space is allocated for the use of the apartment in the grounds.

Getting there

Most of our holidaymakers arrive by air at one of Milan's airports (the nearest, Milan Malpensa airport, is just 24 miles away) and pick up a hire car, often taking advantage of the cheap flights that are now available.  Lake Orta is just 670 miles from Calais, so for U.K. holidaymakers who prefer to drive, it is an easy two day drive.  See our page on flights for full details of airlines flying to the region.

Miasino is 200 metres in altitude above the lake, and less than two miles by road from the local centre of Orta San Giulio. Lake Orta  (or Lago d'Orta in Italian) is well known within Italy as a holiday area, but little known outside Italy, even though it is the "next lake along" from Lake Maggiore. Lake Orta is in the foothills of the Alps: at the south end of the lake there are low hills, whereas at the north end the mountains are much higher (the Mottarone is nearly 1500 metres) and the distant Alpine peaks can be seen. The general effect is of a much gentler - and more inviting! - landscape, compared with some of the larger alpine lakes.

There are many possibilities in the area for sightseeing, country walks, mountain walks, lake sports, or just relaxing in peaceful surroundings. There are several small beaches on Lake Orta.  Being situated at 500 metres altitude, the air is noticeably clean and very pleasant: in the height of summer when it can be rather hot in many parts of Italy, around Lake Orta there can be a gentle and very welcome breeze of mountain air.
